I have a weird problem that has started with my 1973 mercury 850 85 hp 4 cyl. If the motor dies when I put it into reverse which it sometimes does, the shifter lever will sort of stick in reverse. I can move the lever to the nuetral position and re-start it but it will still actually be in reverse. Then after re-starting, it will sort of "pop" out of reverse with a funny sound from the motor. This only happens if the motor dies when shifting into reverse. This problem started after someone ****fed too quickly from forward to reverse while still moving pretty quickly. Anyone have any idea what might have happened? If the engine doesnt die when shifting into reverse, then everything works fine. I told you it was weird... <br />Thanks a lot <br />j-
