Can a Mercury Switch box part #332-7778 A1 be replaced with #332-5524A1? The only difference is one is from an 82 and one is from an 83.

Re: Mercury Switch Boxes

I punched in both part numbers into the computer and they both are superceeded to the same new number. So I would say it will work.

Thanks Trent. You told me once before to dosconnect my rectifier and try for spark. Did you mean to disconnect all the wires from the rectifier?

Yes remove all wires. Also check for spark with all the sparkplugs removed.

Re: Mercury Switch Boxes

Trent I will test tonight for spark on all six. I am getting a set of used switch boxes for a great price so I guess I will just try those first. I know that is not the best method but I am no mechanic. How do I test with all plugs removed?

Re: Mercury Switch Boxes

Why would you disconnect the wires from the from the charging side of the stator. The regulator rectifier would not cause a not spark condition. The only thing that would cause a not spark conditon would be a failed stator, stop circut(black and yellow wire), or a bad switch box.

This a quote from Schmetic:<br /><br />"In some cases, a shorted rectifier can cause high magnetic flux under the flywheel and raise havoc with the charge/trigger coils. Disconnect all wires from the rectifier to see if the spark returns. If it doesn't, its not rectifier related.... " <br /><br />c/6<br /><br />Hooty

Thanks for all the help Hooty. Turned out it was my kill switch and my inability to check it out.
