I have lost the tachometer function on a Mercury Tracker 40 hp. Any recommendation on how to trouble-shoot?
Thank you.

Re: Mercury Tracker 40 hp Tachometer

The signal to the tach comes from the stator. There are 2 sepperate windings on it, one for charging and one for running the motor. The one for charging supplies the tach signal I believe. Check to see if your batts are charging. Also look for loose/corroded connections, damaged wiring, etc...

Re: Mercury Tracker 40 hp Tachometer

I have a 1997 mercury tracker 40HP on my pro team 175 and the tach reads high, like 7000RPM at idle, so I know its wrong. I finally found a mercury service manual that is close in serial# range to what I have. Could this also be a result of a bad stator?
