I have a 1990 90 horse 3 cylinder mercury, this motor last summer ran great, over the winter, it started getting hard to start, and would not stay running. I took the fuel pump apart, and the fuel pump diaphragm was ripped, I rebuilt the fuel pump, and the problem is still there.
I've replaced the fuel filter, took the carbs off and cleaned them out.
What the motor does is, it will start, and when I give it some throttle, I can hear the carbs give a sucking sound, and then it just dies. It will backfire every now and then when started as well. The only thing I haven't replaced in the carbs, is the inlet needles, is this a symptom that the inlet needles could cause?
I've tried just about everything on this motor, and can't seem to figure it out. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
