mercury year?

ok, i saw how people respond to questions about engine year, but how did they find that info, i have a merc. 115 outboard serial number a940408. thanks for the help

From places like this. Click on 'Modellguide' in the top right hand corner.<br /><br />Your 115 checks out there as a 1985 model.
