mercury39 point gap

My father in law has a little boat with a little motor, Mercury 39 3.9 hp.<br />We need to know the gap on the points. Thank you in advance for any help you give. :eek:

THE CLOSER YOU SET THEM THE LESS POWER YOU <br />WELL HAVE. IT SLOW YOUR TIMING DOWN.<br />I WOULD START AT .030 TO .032

Rex, I'll try out your advice this weekend, I just bought a Merc 39, s/n 1782558. I believe it is a 1965 model.

Thanks! By chance do you also know the spark plug type recommended for my 1965 3.9 merc,and the gap?<br /><br />I'll start at .020 for the points too.<br /><br />Ron
