Hi,

I decided to replace the fuel pump diafram on my 88 85hp force. Was running before the change. pulled the pump apart and pealed back the diafram and broke the diaframs gasket Didnt have another so I took a chance and reused the old broken gasket.

After putting together when pumping up the primer bulb it never gets hard and ends up flooding the motor. Question is can the gasket (have another on order) do this??

Also behind the pump there is a large gasket between the pump and motor on the motor. Is there also a small seal or gasket for the hole between the motor and pump rear? it looks clean like maybe there was somthing there but I cant see that I dropped anything..

Thanks

Gasket particles can prevent the needle from seating in the carb. thus preventing the bulb from getting firm and dumping fuel into the carb throats and causing flooding? Haven't a clue on the second ?.

They sell a gasket sealer that's gas resistant.maybe a small bead on the tear?
The hole behind is the vacume lead for the operation of the pump.
There is an X shaped gasket that fits there.#2 in the pic.

So the only thing that firms up the primer bulb after normally 2-3 squeezes is the carb needles and floats? It makes sense that I might of gotten a loose particle which is now holding off a needle since I was messing also filter screen.

Re: messed up fuel pump diafram replacement

Install a filter between the pump and carb.
At Wally World,Automotive,filters.G-2 G12 depending on the hose size.
