Im new here and new to boats. Also this is my first forum ever so please be patient with me. I just got a Bentley pontoon super cheap. Has an old Mercury 50 2 stroke 4 cyl. Cleaned carbs new gas expected to need new engine but turned it over anyhow and it tried to start after sitting for 3 years. Turns out I have fire on 1 cylinder. Cylinder 3. Switched wires to other cylinders at the switch box and all coils are good. So I switched wires coming from the stator on the right side of the switch box and get a different wire firing. What now? New stator? New trigger?

I don't know how a switch box is wired inside. But you can get a voltmeter and check the ohms between stator wires unhooked( you'll need to check the specs on that one)Test each one to ground( should get OL. Or infinity. If you get anything on that test it's bad.You can check the trigger the same way too. To see if they are producing correct voltage you will need to get a DVA adaptor for your voltmeter. And check between those wires. Google cdi electronics troubleshooting. It will give you the specs and test for your motor.
