Mid range Mercury 2 stroke motors post 2006

I was just wondering , I have been replacing my Merc 2 stroke 90 every 2 years. I live close to a dealer who sells at a minimum compaired to what I see averaged nation wide. Therefore I can sell and buy new every couple of years without a huge loss. Will the same design 2 stroke Merc 90hp carb. be available again after 2006 when the emmision standards kick in?

No- 2 strokes will be DFI (direct fuel injected)<br />and most if not all 4 strikes will be DFI.<br /><br />Backfire

hello<br /> no one knows for sure<br /> so far DFI has been dismal in outboards. but its getting better. most 4 strokes are efi but DFI may be coming I kinda doubt it though. DFI sounds good and is kinda sexy looking but its just not worth the extra effort on a four stroke. DFI was designed for two stroke due to the intake and exhaust ports opening and closing and the fuel that got scavenged out of the exhaust. with DFI all the fuel is brought in after thye ex ports are closed and burned before they are opened back up again. there is no need for this on a gasoline 4 stroke. we heard 2 years ago that carbbed v6 yammis were toast.<br /> I took the hood off a 150 v6 2004 model plain jane old 2 stroke carbed just last week. I will miss carbs as they always worked and worked well but its on to the next expensive fiasco. with carbs we had no 780 dollar electric pumps.<br /> anyway its not somethinmg I concern my self with they wil be here or not. either way they will break and I will have work. of that I am confident<br /> good luck and keep posting

Yeah, with the space on the 4-stroke cylinder head pretty much occupied by the valves and sparkplug, there's no real room left for direct injectors. They'd limit the size of the valves and reduce breathing. Only thing you have on a 2-stroke head is a sparkplug. Plenty of room for direct injectors.<br /><br />Future Project X motors will have fewer cylinders. The current motors are in the 200 to 250Hp range (I've heard they can twist considerably more than that out of them. I'm sure durability suffers, though). 4-cylinders will be between 125 and 175Hp. After that, maybe triples between 75 and 115Hp? Lower Hp's will probably be conventional, though. It sounds like Merc is aiming at 4-strokes and scrapping 2-strokes as the gap between the small and large 4-strokes fills-out. I wonder how Ol' Carl would feel about that?
