I have an '89 Mercruiser 260 HP 350 in my boat. Took it out for first time this summer on Saturday, ran around for about 3 hours and the boat ran great. Good power, temp stayed between 140-150, oil pressure good at 40-50 PSI. After pulling it out Just serviced outdrive last week, new bellows, water pump, fresh gear oil, oil change on motor, tune-up.
Yesterday I dropped it in the water again and after about 15-20 minutes cruising along at 25-30 MPH engine started loosing power and stalled when I backed off. Popped engine cover and found this...
I figure blown head gasket or cracked block/head. If it was a crcaked block/head from freezing I would have thought it would have shown running on the hose or during the 3 hours I had it out first time. Oh well.
Anything else that could cause that on a marine engine? I'm thinking I'll pick up a low mile truck engine and maybe throw rings and bearings then swap it in. Any problem with doing this or any specific things I'd need to change for marine use beside the basic external stuff?
