Milky oil

So I have a 19 8815 horse Johnson and I just went through it got all the hoses changed new gaskets and what not got a run in tuned and I thought to myself. I better check this gear oil I go to dump it out man was it milky anybody know if this linkage fraud is supposed to be exposed and or is this the culprit or do you think it’s just a lower unit seals need replaced? I also added the invoice paper from where this motor came from so it’s kind of crazy if they checked the lower unit.

Sometimes water ingress is caused by reusing old nylon bolt seals. Sometimes some oils emulsify and look bad but that is their nature.

I would just refill install new nylon washer and run it. Recheck in a few weeks. Let the engine sit vertically a week and any water will separate from the oil and sink to the lower bolt. just open it gently to check for water dropplets. If none... close it it up ... with a new nylon

DO NOT REMOVE THE PHILIPPS SCREW !!

some folks just change oil mid season ( cheaper than a GC reseal if you need shop work at 90$/h) If you want to do it get a good shop book or check utubes. It becomes easy after a few refurbs :)

The shift rod is exposed there.----Very normal.-----There is a seal on the shift rod , but nowhere near that exposed part.-----Did you let the motor sit for 3 days before checking the oil?

Looks like some of that lower price greenish oil that I've seen. Video was quick and hard to see clearly. Might not be bad at all. Like others have said, put it in a glass bottle and look at it tomorrow.

Vacuum testing is easy though. Any intake manifold suction tester works and I screw it on my foot oil pump tool. Two tools that everyone should own who owns outboards. Look at the repair prices on that invoice. Ouch.

I pump it up to ten lbs (vacuum) and go have coffee.
