MinnKota 565 question

Hello, I just purchased a boat which has a Minn Kota trolling motor. The model is 565. The box on top on the shaft has a turn dial and a scale which says Extended Running Time.

This is on a bow mount device and has foot controls. I think that I understand how the pedal works. Tilting for steering, press the toe button to engage power, and roll a dial to get forward and reverse? That roller dial has OFF and several numbers; 1 thru 7 (i think).

Attached to the tilting foot pedal is a box which has a rocker switch. This has three positions: MOM OFF CON I have little clue as to what they mean. OK, I suppose I might grasp what OFF refers to, but, what is OFF? What do the other positions mean?

I hope someone can enlighten me as to how all of this functions. I just bought a battery, but have NOT connected it. I want to understand what to expect before doing so.

Thanks

MOM means momentary. The motor runs only when you push the button.
CON means constant. The motor runs all the time.
Off is Off

Great! Thanks for that answer.

That makes sense. It'd be easy to imagine using it solo to navigate if the gas motor died. your foot could get cramped pressing it at an awkward angle for extended periods.

Any idea what the turn dial on the top means?

I have the same trolling motor, the dial on top is a pointer that shows you which way the motor is pointing,i run mine on momentary ,when you push the rectangular pad on the foot pedal it starts the motor you can set the speed in this case 5 speed 1-5 there is no reverse you just push on the pedal far enough to get the pointer pointing back at you.

I know this is an old thread but I bought a boat with this same motor and am looking for a manual.
