mis fire on merc40hp

mercury 40hp year 1992 developed mis fire on high revs all has been checked but has been diagnosed with switch box fault true or false what are your thoughts ? any one

Is this an occasional miss or a constant miss? Also, can we have the engine serial number please? It will make looking up exactly what it is a lot easier. In that era the 40 came in 2 cyl, 3 cyl and 4 cyl.... Bit difficult to know which one to look up....
