missing points

I have a 1985 Searay with a Mercruiser 3.0 140 and someone removed my points and condensor. I bought new points and a condensor but i am not sure how to reinstall them. I installed them on the plate gapped the points hooked the contensor to the points but have read that i need to hook the points to the coil. right now there is a gray wire connected to the + and a purple and yellow wire connected to the - and a purple wire connected to the -.

There should be a single wire running from the distributor to the negative terminal of the coil. The wire will connect to the points in the same spot as the condensor.
