Re: Missing reply
Stan Freberg was far more than a comedian. Among other things he was Beanie in the "Bob Clampett Cartoon Beany and Cecil. In addtion he was a Satirist, Radio and Telvision Producer, Commercial Copywriter and Performer. When Jack Benny left his Radio Show to concentrate solely on TV, Stan Freberg was his replacement. Unfortunately, his material was directed at people intelligence and like the first Bob Newhart and The Smothers Brothers television shows, he was cancelled. He is probably most widely known for his parodies on Popular fare, ie Yellow Rose of Texas, The Bannana Boat song, Green Christmas, Dragonnet etc. My favorite of his works is "Stan Freberg Presents The United States of America, The Early Years." Produced in the mid sixties, the second part wasn't completed until nearly the 21st century. Unfortunately it came to late to include one of the star performers of the Early years album, June Foray. (Rocket J Squirrel). Fortunately, it includes many of the familiar voices, Jesse White (The Maytag Repairman), Paul Frees,(The man of a thousand voices), Peter Leeds,(a that guy) Walter Tetly (Leroy from The Great Gildersleeve)and other familiar voices.
He may still be heard on Radio Spirits dot com, but has been relegated to introducing and short comments on other programs.
The two CD release is available, though it is probably a great deal too liberal for those here.
