Missing spring washers on motor mounts?

I'm sorry if this seems redundant because some of this was started in anither thread but I wanted to make sure the topic was clear.

I replaced my engine, don't remember if spring washers were there. Did the alignment but it reqiredme to move the engine to the very bottom to get it aligned.

Is this an indication that I am missing the spring washers?

What will happen if I am missing them, but the engine is still aligned?

Thanks!

Don't if it will work. If it's aligned I guess it may? Doesn't seem like it would be aligned to the proper height in the rear however. It is muy important to put the rear mount hardware in properly. If you have room just pull the drive and loosen the rear mounts and slip in the washers.

Anything other then properly assembled you are taking a chance of damaging your U-joins and or coupler, gimbal bearing, etc.

if you have the newer style rear mounts with the knurled bottoms, they aren't used. if you don't, then they need to be there and the engine realigned.

Absolutely put the spring washers in if you have the old style mounts. Otherwise you aren't using the rubber mounts at all, only the leather rings support the engine.

Ok, just to confirm, it's a 1996 so it has to have the old style since it didn't change till 2003 correct?

Unless you, or someone else, have changed them, it has the old style.

Ok, thanks. Look like I'm paying for 2 more days in the yard. I'm going to try to pry the engine up to see if their there. I may as well just go buy new ones anyway.

Anyone happen to know a part number for the spring washers? My part guy can't find them.

Never mind, merc discontinued for the newer mount and Sierra has them as a kit at 18-2619 $12 each, $15 at my local store.

Update:

I removed the drive, pulled the exhaust to jack up the engine and acces the rear mounts and to my dismay I found the mounts and spring washers right where they're supposed to be. I installed the new spring washers, and mount bolts.

All back together and now it still requires me to lower the engine to the bottom threads to get the alignment right. I can't get it any lower on the front mounts.

What did I do wrong?

I guess I'm confused.

Is the alignment right now? If it is, and you are simply concerned that it took all the adjustment to do it.... well - sometimes stringers are built to different heights and variations. Just be glad you have enough adjustment to take care of it.

The alignment is very close. I can remove the tool with one hand but the splines Re stll showing more on the top.

It's supposed to be the same engine that came out of it.

Alignment Problem, engine too high

Alignment Problem, engine too high

Hello, I would like some more input on the problem I am having. The spring washers are all there, in fact I installed new one's with new bolts and fabric spacers. The engine is still a little out of alignment and I am all the way to the bottom on my front motor mounts. Any ideas?

There are no shims in my front or rear motor mounts.

When you installed the rear mounts did you install a spacer ring that comes with the mount

You mean the one that goes on the top?

Did you set the gimbal bearing prior to doing the alignment?

Re: Missing spring washers on motor mounts?

I'm going to pony up for another haul out and try to re-align it better. I have to have it taken out again because my outdrive seal is leaking into my shift cable.

I bought a wrench that will get into the adjustment bolts a lot easier. It is a 1 1/8" Porter Cable A22709 Open End Wrench I got for $7 online. It's thinner and should be able to allow me to get a few more turns on either side.
