Missing the ID tag on the engine - trying to find out model and year from plug number

I hust picked up a center console with an 88 HP Evnirude on the back . . . I can not find a tag for the model information so I looked for the silver plug on the engine . . . .

The number on the plug is R8181467

I do not see anything online that will tell me the year or model of the engine . . . . . can anyone provide some insight into what I actually have on the boat?

Ive got a couple of '81 blocks like that without the usual E88xxxx numbering . That number you have is just the serial number. Not much info you can get from that. Is there anything on the side of the motor mount where it bolts to the transom? What are the attachments to the motor? Does it have chokes or a primer solenoid? 2 power packs or one? are there tags on the carburetors? That will help you narrow the year range down.

That "R" means it is a replacement powerhead. Not much help there.

Andy,
Evinrude only made the 88Hp for 10 years from 1987-1996. It seems as only the '94-'96 models had an option for TnT according to the BRP Model Year Guide, that may narrow it down to three model years if you have the factory TnT unit.

Call BRP support and give them the serial number from the plug. BRP.com. They are open during normal business hours m-f.
