I have a older johnson (motor) # FDL12R I can find FDL12 on the different sites But not FDL12R It don't look like it would be a 1958 it's not a rounded hood like the 50's looks much newer. The only thing on the hood is a pic. of a seahorse/ 20  ALL numbers do match FDL12R ( WHAT'S THE R STAND FOR ? )

Re: model #

The R is the batch number. It is of no further significance.Don't be amazed if somebody stuck a different cowling on it.46 years is a long time.

On motors that old, many times parts are "mixed and matched". Does it have a fiberglass motor cover? If so, then you have a salvaged motor. That does not mean it is bad, just that you may have to scrounge or enlist the services of "old timers" to find needed parts.

Re: model #

A medium green was used in '67 and a dark green in '68 thru '71 or so. It's getting harder to remember all the details over all the years. Must be an "age" thing.
