Hi guys,a while ago castaway & I got into trouble for breaking the forum rules by being risque. If I am not mistaken you are not allowed to buy, sell or solicit for business on this forum unless you are a member of iboats. Can you guys checkout the posts for the marine doctor in the merc forum this is not the first time i have seen this guy actively offering stuff for sale.If he is a member of iboats i apologise but if he isnt kick his a**.The rules must apply to all users :p

whats this? are you saying that if a user needs something, he cant ask another user if he has it, and to sell it to him? or if a user has something another needs he cant offer it to him if he has it? i know there are some dealers here, but i have not seen any solicitation by a business, specifically tmd. i have seen one on nothing to do with boats though!

This is a gray area, guys.

We want to protect iboats business interests while allowing members to be as helpful as possible.

It would be nice if everyone agreed with every call we make, but you know that isn't gonna happen.

Thanks for your views. :)

JB-from what I've been told, even though iboats hosts our website AND our ships store-I'm NOT allowed to help the members by offering OEM parts that iboats cannot supply the members...I tried to get this matter resolved this spring and even got emails from iboats...wish you guys would figure out your policies !!!

Hi, ZZZZZ.

It's almost never an easy call. What makes a lot of difference is whether the offer is pro-active or reactive.

Example: If someone posts that he wants to sell/buy something that iboats currently offers, ZAP. If it is something that iboats doesn't offer, but is a clear attempt at a "classified" ad, probably ZAP.

But if Joe member has a problem that needs a used or unusual item that iboats doesn't offer and Jim member says he can help and posts an Email address it will probably survive. If Jim member is a commercial enterprize and offers to sell in the post, with a link, probably not.

Finally, links to iboats' competition will usually get zapped, too.

I know that isn't a clear-cut definition, but it is the best I can do.

As iboats grows and changes, some of these "definitions" will surely change also. We will try to keep you informed.

Thanks for your cooperation. :)

Re: Moderators please read

Hi catfish,JB et all,Myself I have no objections to a forum member obtaining parts etc from other forum users but when the member supplying the parts is a business for the continuity of the forum he should at least have to pay i boats for the use of the forum to sell his wares.Supplying information on where to get parts is one thing but actively quoting prices on articles that your business has for sale is abuse of the forum. This forum is funded by iboats at no cost to the users & promotes iboats businesses if other businesses try & cash in on it as free advertising or a captive market we may see the forum die..

Just in case anyone wanted to know, I also shop Iboats. I would also like to say that I think JB does very well at keeping things under control.

Clanton

I thought there was going to be something like a classified page here on iboats. What happened to that idea?

c/6

Hooty

Hi, Hooty.

Haven't figured out how to run a flea market in a retail outlet without interfering with the retail business yet.

What about free things? Or things you can't get on iboats? Here is an example:

When I first came to this forum when I was baby sloopy I asked a question on the outboard forum about a small plastic hose that is an inch long in the carb. The problem was that could not find one! SO clinton sends me one for free... Now is it ok for him to do this or is he cheating iboats out of money?
