Right on, Ladyfish. Attitude is what made it so good. The wrong attitude will eventually kill it. The Mods have to walk a fine line in keeping membership up for the business and yet not let it degenerate into a forum that would be better placed on other sites. It looks to me like they're trying to control it and I don't envy them the job. I believe we could all help if we'd just let the "look at me!" people know we're not interested in their juvenile postings.

Sloopy - You are not a hypocrite. You have been an active member on this board for years now. I personally banned you 15+ times at the beginning so I think I have the authority to say that you are very welcome to visit these forums and will always be welcome. :)

Here were I work we make our living through sales
It costs on average approx 75 dollars in
advertising for every person that walks through
the front door, whether they are here to use the
bathroom or to browse at the latest models.
We are very a tune to cost of sales and at
generating sales.
If you are in that kind of environment, it is not
good business to make assumptions on who will
buy and who will not.
Its also very difficult to separate the wheat from
the chafe without stunting the growth of the plant.
Sales is like picking berries not all are ripe
and ready for harvest at the same time.
Dont cut off your nose to spite you face.

Nosleep, well put, I figured it would be a waste of time pointing out sales 101 for the folks who need it. Even though I am not into sales any more, I still have to sell myself daily to other potential bosses. In the medical device industry projects change fequently and so do its leaders. (200people layed off on Halloween. More in march). So I avoid burning bridges with folks who may one day need and want my help. You attract more flys with honey than vineger.

"No-Joke Movement" folks and patonizing them for it mods:
I HAVE followed the rules here on this forum and still got poofed ( maybe cause I matched wits with the wrong person). Just like a liberal in congress or in the Federal Judicuary, folks gotta control the humor here on this site to make it "post counting fair" for the prefered salty dog sailor that seek upper boat class status. Haa! Give me a break! You folks are pathetic.

Oh,sloopy and "band wagoneers" screw you if you cant take/make a joke (now).

Just like the liberals who want to ban the SUV and the hamburger, "Folks here want to ban the humor as well as certain individuals posting" Ha, ha,ha,ha,ha,ha,ha!

What will be next: No

Stupid human tricks
recipes
person problems
motorcycles
car engines
politics
home appliance
Etc......etc. yada yada yahoo!

Oddjob, Humor (jokes} is one thing but derogatory crude remarks and just plain out ignorance is another. Save it for the tap room where it belongs.

Well as I remember, the joke was neither a derogatory crude remark or plain out ignorance.

It was a "joke" plain and simple and if anyone knows jokes, it's "Admiral Jokester" :D

If anyone don't like my jokes, just cruise on by when you see something that says funny, funnies or humor from me.

Have a nice day.

Re: Mods, just curious...

I was referring to post on here not really an individual person or persons. I am no angel and have posted some stuff I wish I hadn't.

As far as an example,, well oddjob you are a pretty smart guy, you should be able to discern between a funny joke and some idiotic garbage.

Re: Mods, just curious...

You mods have a difficult job. You can go too far to either side, and I think you do a good job...but the dark side lurks  . Recall all that it was JB's tough love that brought Sloopy around. ;)At least that's my recollection...is that right Sloopy? Brian, every now and then the mods'l get you, but whatever you do don't go sensitive on us. :D

Re: Mods, just curious...

Then you are misunderstood Flahthead.

But theres my point....this finger pointing started with "what posts should count" by a forum member. Then the mods got to thinkin...yeaaaa!...then they agreed and added other derogretory lables to those danm free-loading, non-outboard buying, stupid joke tellin, rascals that aint bringing nothing to the table and changed the forum around.

And the dominoes aint stopped falling since. Its like a which hunt all of a sudden. And all the winers(including mods) are using it to lash out at they dislike or mistrust and so on.

I for one am offended (with what has happened here). Because, maybe I and others have a lot to offer as well as others who may not measure up to someone else's expertise. Duh, thats why were here. Hell, I thought we were makin friends in the process (well except JB he dont like nobody) . I would prefer that, jokes included. Even cat jokes.

And another thing,
If I considered myself the expert that some of the joke/lame-poster/etc. disenters feel they are, then I would never have come here much less stayed to begin with.

ADDITUDE? ....I have one now.

Re: Mods, just curious...

wow this is like continuouswave.

great points on both sides. i think the spinner and odd got it right. if you dont like that stuff cruise by. the guy tellin a joke today may be the guy/gal tellin you how to patch up your console tomorrow. or buying your whaler.

forums are a collection of diverse people. when it becomes just a crotchety group of conservatives that think just one way...then the forums die. we all spend time on these forums to learn and share knowledge and comraderie. many of us have jobs we aint always thrilled about....let's allow each other the get out of jail free pass and be a welcoming and loving bunch.

**** . now my wife is callin....

Re: Mods, just curious...

Come on folks, lighten up, it's just a website.
A business yes, but still one of many websites on the WWW.

Life is way to short to worry about what someone says on here.

They are sitting behind that screen and not looking at you face to face or a lot of stuff would not be said, I assure you.

If anyone on this board thinks for one moment that what they say or do to me, bothers me, you are dead wrong.

I could care less.
All I know is that if you can read mine or anyone's funnies and not get a little laugh from them, then you need to take a step back and look at your life.

This isn't Continuous Wave-thank goodness.

However, this is a site that was created for (I think) general boating/fishing/watersports enthusiasts.

The political/social threads (I'm guilty too) have done nothing but started infighting and general discord.

Since many of us do not seem to be able to control ourselves, I'm afraid the general sections may go away. That's sad.

I know it's winter, for most of you, (me-sunny-AZ :D ) I never stop thinking about or learning from others, about boats.

That's what made this a great site! Let's keep it that way.

Hey, I do not even have a boat, at this time,
in my home stables. However, I am in charge of maintaining the following fleet, at my family's lake side home, which is 1800 miles away.

Pontoon-20" Starcraft-75 hp Merc.

Boston Whaler-70 hp. Johnson

3-PWC's (Bombardier, Kawasaki, Yamaha)

1-6 hp. Evinrude.

2-3 hp. Evinrudes

1-7.5 hp. Evinrude.

1-8 hp. Honda

1-9.5 hp. Johnson

2-Canoes

1-14' Aluminum boat

Not to mention golf cart, riding lawnmower, etc.

This site has been a great source of info. for products I was not familiar with. I am thankful for that.

Let's clean up our act(s).

Re: Mods, just curious...

SCO, THANK YOU for your support. Don't worry about me going "sensitive", however. You've got to have "sense" before you can be "sense-itive", hehehe.
I find it extremely humorous that an innocent post can get twisted so out of shape that people resort to name-calling and the "big-me/little-you" bully syndrome.
Before I'd let a series of posts get me so worked up to resort to literary (writing) violence, I'd go out to the garage & work on the boat. Some of you really need to LIGHTEN UP 'fore you blow a head-gasket.
