A have a 2007 Crestliner Fish Hawk 1700 which uses a reed switch style Moeller fuel sending unit. Apparently the plastic float on the unit is gas logged! When I place the unit in a clear glass jar of gasoline the float remains at the bottom of the stem of the unit (doesn't float). I do not see any cracks in the plastic where fuel could of entered. In fact, I believe the float is solid plastic. A new float runs approx. $90. Has anyone experienced this and was able to reseal the float. I would like to find a method that I can trust because I prefer not to have foreign material floating in the tank that could eventually enter the motor. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Ordered unit on Tuesday night and to be delivered today. Probably better to replace than repair in this circumstance. Thanks for the suggestion. The $60 was easier to accept than the $90 that was suggested by the dealer.

Can you hear any fuel sloshing in the float? It would have to be totally filled to not float. You could drill a small hole in the float and drain out the fuel to see. And then find out where it was leaking and seal it up again. But you already bought a replacement unit. Just a thought.

The ethanol dissolves the lacquer on the old cork floats, and soaks into the rubber on some of the newer ones. Then they sink. The fix is to replace the float itself with an ethanol resistant rubber float.

I fixed 2 tanks. Each cost me $1.25 for the new part. Piece of cake. I can't remember where I got the info - just google it. I bought 2 extra floats for future use just in case, but they don't have part numbers on them so I can't help. If I remember correctly, I got then from NAPA.

Sucks to get old when you can't remember important stuff like this.
