Hello,

I have a 1999 30hp Johnson.
I had several accidents with it.
It happened two times that the engine died on sea for unknown reason.
Now I have found the reason for it.
The wires coming out of powerpack's back side had loosened in the casting compound, so moisture could get into the cdi-circuitry.
I decided to open the case, a hard job because of the rubbery casting mass in it(polyurethane).
I finally cleaned the cdi board an resoldered all points on it.
I draw a schematics of the cdi-circuitry, a quite simple capacitor discharching thyristor design with a two stage over speed latch and a very simple killing facility.
Before casting it again I did a test and the engine ran very well.
I hope the wires will be sealed now quite well for a long time so moisture has no chance to produce leak currents in the circuitry again.

Nordy from Germany
