I just got a 1962 evinrude 10Hp Sportwin model 10024-A-B-M-R. It starts first pull and runs strong. It just seems at full throtle there should be so much more there. I take the cover off and push the cam follower open and there is alot more there. How do I adjust that. I also run 24:1 gas mixture can I run 32:1 or 50:1 gas mixture to get all that extra power there Or should I leave a good running old old motor alone and just go slow??? THanks for the help...........

The mix ratio won't affect power output, just smoke output. I'd stick to 24:1.
You need to do a "link and sync". There's a plate on the magneto that pushes the cam follower open - it has to be adjusted properly. Do a search (red button near the top of this page) for "link and sync" and you'll find how to do it.
There's a lot of stuff you can do to make that old girl run like she's supposed to. Clean the carb, clean the old carbon out of the innards ("decarb"), adjust points, etc. You need a manual. The OMC originals are the best, but pricey. Seloc's is pretty good for tuneups and stuff you'll likely be doing. You can order it at the lower left corner of this page.

It is much simpler on your single carb engine, outmason.

It is the adjustment of the throttle linkage and its synchronization to correct magneto timing.

You can briefly get away with the excess advance of mag timing that you get by pushing the cam, but you will melt a piston pretty quickly. Don't do it.

Good luck. :)
