More Power

I recently inherited an old 14' jon with a 1962 Johnson Seahorse 5.5hp Model #CD-19. I did a complete bass boat conversion to it and in doing so I added a lot more weight to the boat. Without the massive expense of a larger/newer motor, I was wondering what kind of prop I could put on it to gain more power/torque? According to the manual, it came with a 2-blade, 8" dia x 7 1/4" pitch prop. Any suggestions?

A 5.5 is pretty much over loaded with almost any boat/load.
We had a 12' flat bottom steel boat that did quite well.with a tiller extension it would pop on plane with a 180 pounder driving.It did struggle a little with
about 300 lbs aboard.Have you tested with the present prop and do you know the size.I would think with 2 aboard planing is probably out of the question but you could drop down in pitch with little chance of over reving.
might net a little more speed and the motor would be happier.
When running alone you might get it to plane with a tiller extension.

Props don't add power and torque. Props transfer the available power and torque you have into propulsion of the boat. Yes -- that's a technicality! But that's what we are about. In your case you can play with props 'til you are blue in the face and in the end you will come to the conclusion you need a bigger engine (as Tim The Toolman Taylor would say -- "more power").

And my response was advertising what????? It looks to me like he had two opinions/suggestions, and one offer to help with what I would assume is a prop change. The poster offered nothing for sale on the forum. Hardly advertising.
