I have a 1987 Suzuki 140 on a 18 ft center console. The top mount control handle with tilt and trim has cracked and should be replaced. Should I go for a different brand control and how had is it to replace?

Re: Morse controls

a different brand will mean some cut and splice but it can be done. try and get one with the same footprint and the install will go much easier. another thing to consider is it must have the same throw/direction as your old one, or at least be able to be setup that way.

Re: Morse controls

hello
most morse controls are "universal" fit. this means it wont fit anything correctly and most backyard techs set them up incorrectly. I replace a lot of shift clutches due to incorrect set up of universal fit stuff. buy the suzuki replacement and it will work right every time.
good luck and keep posting

It is a 1987, so where could I find the right control for it?

Re: Morse controls

if the control still works, and its just an issue of the handle, why not get a replacement handle?

i had a cracked handle/know for years and two years ago i had the time to pursue a replacement. mine was an off brand but the company was still open and i was able to get a replacement.

their customer service guy claimed they didn't have/sell replacements but they did have a "bone yard" for items that had been returned. he took my name and number, didn't promise anything. he called back, said he found a "used" one and sent it out gratis. i thanked him profusely, of course.

when the part arrived, i examined it thoroughly. i found no indication of prior use (metal screws into plastic bosses usually show prior use). i installed it to my old unit and its been in service 100% ever since.

a lot easier than a total replacement. while morse has been bought out by teleflex there are others...

good luck!
