I started having problems about a month ago with a 1992 40hp mariner. Had a constant alarm problem. Mechanic said bad alarm. No overheat. Since then the motor won't allow more throttle underway. It seems to bog down. The first time it did this I cleaned the plugs ,the carb. bowl and the oil float and for a couple trips on the lake it ran better than it ever did. :( Alas the victory was short lived because its doing the same thing again. The wife is ready to tie an anchor to my butt and toss me overboard if I don't get it fixed soon.I tried the seafoam too and that didn't seem to help. Any suggestions??? Could it be an electrical switch or something that is stopping acceleration?

Re: motor bogging down

Check to see if the plug wires are bad. Run the motor and spray a mist on them and if you see an arc they are bad. Good luck.
