Motor Identification. 65 merc with 4 stars on lower unit.

Looking at a picture of a older 65 Merc. Has an almost black cowl with 2 bands of chrome, on the lower unit it has 4 stars then 65 hp behind it. I have no other info.

They can be difficult to ID without the serial number, what is the URL of the picture, perhaps I can come up with some information.

What color is the band going around the cowl, Red or Blue?

All silver trim on a black wrap is likely a 1965. Serial number will be on tag on clamp bracket, also stamped on top of cylinder block.

1966 had a silver band going around the engine "wrap" cowling, with black letters. 1965 had gold letters.

Ya, that's it. 1965 65hp, Boat, motor and trailer $500 needs a floor and a transom replaced Thanks guys for the info.
