Motor in gear or neutral when trailering?

Just wondering if there's a difference between having your motor in gear or in neutral when trailering it down the highway. Or does it matter? Will the prop/gears wear out faster if it's spinning while going down the road?

In 35 years of boating, I have only seen a couple of props turning while being towed on the road.

That was a good question though, shows that your thinking.

Craig

Should'nt make a habit of shifting into gear while motor isn't running.Reeks on the shifting pawl.Lower unit is splash lubricated anyway so any turning would simply lubricate lower unit gears when in nuetral.

Thanks for the replies guys. :) I'm a new boater so I wasn't sure if it mattered or not. I'm taking the boat on a long trip next weekend and figured I'd ask the question before finding out the hard way
