motor mounting holes

What yr.. did<br /> they stagger the upper and lower mounting holes for merc? On my 84 rude they are staggered I was looking at a 1976 merc and the holes are all in-line, anyway to mount this motor where the rude was without drilling new holes?<br /><br /><br />thnx <br />mark

Don't know the specific year, but it was when they moved the trim system between the clamp brackets instead of external rams with an onboard pump. The V-6's were the first, I think in the late 1970s when they were introduced. The rest followed gradually, mostly as certain lines were discontinued in favor of more modern models.<br /><br />But then, the first V-6's still used the onboard pump with one awesome trim ram between the clamps. That was one helluva trim system, indeed!

Yeah. We call those single cylinder trim rams "log splitters".<br /><br />c/6<br />Hooty
