I just put a different motor on a new transom on my pontoon boat (good news part) :)

After all said & done i noticed I had gotton it 1/2" off center (bad news part) :(

Will that 1/2" have any effect on anything (except making me PO'ed at myself?)

Fear not it isn't likely to cause any problems.I would wonder more about the height.
You may have to fiddle with that. What motor is it?

OMG  you are destined to go in circles FOREVER!!!!

You will be okay as long as you have full range to turn it........ you might feel the effect when you go racing with the toon :D

Re: Motor Off Center?

Thanks to both :D
I been goin in circles for 60 yrs so that wont bother me

I think height should be fine & have full range of steering - Its a 1987 Johnson 110 with 20" shaft-
The one i replaced was a 1981 115 Johnson with same length :)

I still cant belive i did that :(

It may push the boat ever so slightly to the long side of the transom but you may be able to correct that with the trim tab on the drive.

I love when the best laid plans turn out like that, you finish and your all proud of yourself then CRAP! How did I not see that!

What also makes it hard to take is if there is no brother or brother in law, helping with the project, to blame it on. Something that is possibly a negative, needs to be carried by as many as possible. A big positive on the other hand = "well I worked hard at it, etc, ect yada yada yada.

Humans are funny.

I once had an old Florida crab boat that had the motor and box on the far stbd side of the transom with no effect. Came from manufacturer that way.

well, you screwed the pooch on that one, your best bet is to just find a new home for it, ill start making room, lol. seriously, a half inch shouldnt make a difference. i take mine off and on when transporting it, and sometimes i dint get it centered all the time. i havent modiced any signifigant change in performance

Re: Motor Off Center?

Mudslinging79 makes a good point about removing an engine and reinstalling it. Think about how many Jon boats that are out there that people take the engine on and off of on a frequent basis, or even the inflatable crowd. I seriously doubt they are measuring everytime they clamp the engine on the back. So they are probably off by that amount all the time and just do not think about it. Also I would be curious as to the factory tolerance when they install motors. I bet they are not spot on everytime. So 1/2" off... Go put the boat in the water, have a cold one and relax. At least you didnt mount it upside down.

Now every time you hear someone on shore laughing, you're going to wonder if they noticed too.
I've been in some smaller boats where the engine was offset to accommodate the trolling motor. They handled fine.

1/2" on the Space Shuttle is an issue, 1/2" on the pontoon boat will only be noticed by the person who installed it.
