I have been hearing a lot about keeping your motor down while at home on a trailer.

I've been keeping my on the transom saver until I'm ready to launch it. Am I hurting anything by doing this?

Thanks,
Tom

Re: Motor position

Nope, nothing at all. I guess the only reason it is recommended to stay in vertical when not in use is to make sure it drains properly.

Re: Motor position

Like Jiggz says draining is why they suggest keeping it down.
I like to keep mine down so the stainless steel push rods on the trim/tilt aren't exposed.
I use white lithium grease spray.

Tom,is that your motor?
I thought It was a 150??
If it is? What size prop is that?

Re: Motor position

with an outboard on a transom saver, the only thing you hurt is your shin when you bang it into the prop.

like jerry mentioned, draining is the main reason.

Re: Motor position

Yeah, Well--- if you keep it tilted and don't cover the prop. rain gets into it. When it freezes during the winter, it will crack the lower unit open. Store it vertically during the winter--at least in those areas where it gets to below freezing.

Yep its mine.. the SS prop is a 13X19 A spline washer is needed, most of my props have it built in to the hub but not the SS.

Thanks Frank, I didn't think of that. I probably pull the LU anyways to check out the water pump and keep it inside during the winter.

And Yes Jerry they are predicting a very cold and snowy winter up here in the north. :cold:

Re: Motor position

Tom: If you are writing about the front spacer, it need not be splined. A couple of big, thick, stainless washers will do.
