motor title headache

Hey all,

I just bought my first boat/motor last week and after doing some investigative work and with plenty of help from you folks I have learned that my motor is a '68 Evinrude 55hp. Great. My title says I own a '73 Evinrude 135hp. Not so great. My title also says that the serial number on my real engine is the same as the serial number on my imaginary one. My question is; is it possible for two different model numbers have the same serial number? The guy I bought the boat from, bought it from a Volunteers of America auction with both titles. Maybe there was a mix up somewhere. Who knows.

Is there an easy way to get my title corrected? I'm in ohio. Thanks.

Oh yeah, if you have a 1973 Evinrude model 13538M with a title for a '68 55hp model 55873R...I'll trade ya!

Re: motor title headache

Your best bet is deal with your Natural Resources (or whatever your states calls your boat division) people via mail and lay out the problem exactly as you have here.

Sounds like a clerical screwup somewhere in the past.

A letter is more effective than in person as they have to think and compose a reply, rather than just dismiss you.

In any event, it's obvious that this is a 34 year old engine, with minimal dollar value, so why would you be lying and cheating? They should realize this and issue you an amended title.
