Re: Motor tune up
There are many different thoughts here. Im from the cold white north, so some of what we do might not be applicable to the southern guys.
I start by adding fuel stabilizer to the tank and running the motor for a good 10 minutes to ensure the stabilizer is spread throughout.
I then spray fogging oil into the carb throat until she dies out. Remove plugs, spray more fogging oil into cylinder, pull recoil to distribute oil and replace plugs.
Change gear oil with new crush washers.
Ensure motor is vertical. It is self draining.
Some guys like to drain the carb. I prefer to leave it full myself with the stabilizer. You never get it fully drained and the small puddle of fuel left seems to form a dried crusty mess sometimes. To each their own though.
I then spray WD40 over the powerhead and lowerunit to protect against corrosion.
Pull prop, remove old fishing line, and grease prop shaft.
Grease all fittings, and oil applicable locations.
Wipe off residual water and you are good till spring!
If the gearcase drains are not functioning, and are plugged, you will need to angle the motor back to let the water exit the exhaust port if applicable. Hopefully the drains are not clogged and doing their job.
