I'm running duel mercuiser 350 . I just had one of the carburetors rebuilt while running it with the muffs on it idles fine I put it in the water and it turn over fine starts then shuts off before I can even get it into gear. If I quickly put it in gear with more throttle it runs but as soon as I go back to idle the motor shuts off . Please help

Might need to have the idle increased for the one doing 500 rpm, and the one doing 1500 needs to be turned down.
Was the carb just installed without any adjusting?
What year are the motors and if possible do you have the serial number?

I don't have the number my boat is in powell the motors are 93. The boat shop did the rebuild and install so I'm guessing they did the adjusting but not in the water under full load . . It took me 2 months to get it in there shop and I'm hoping I can adjust something to turn up the idle . Is this something I can do or do I need to have a shop do it ?

You can adjust in with a flat tip screw driver. Idle should be adjust to 650 to 700 rpm in neutral. Don't know which carb you have but guessing it is a 4 barrel of either the Rochester or Weber make. Look on the side of the carb below where the throttle cable is attached. You will find a screw which is resting against the throttle arm. Turn the screw inward (clockwise) to achieve the rpm.

If it starts idling faster, just turn the screw back the other way.
