It's that time to get my 2003 Kawasaki KLR 650 back on the road for another year of riding.
http://img.epinions.com/images/opti/04/50/2003_Kawasaki_KLR650-resized200.jpg
It's a nice riding bike to go anywhere, but sometimes I would like to have a radio/cd player with me.
Does anyone know who sells helmuts with radios installed in them?
The dealer said that there was not really enough room to put a stereo on my bike, so the only other option is a helmut with a radio.

Any input would be great.
Thanks, Bro Chris.

Re: motorcycle helmut with a radio installed in it.

J & M has been making helmet headsets for years and years. I've had 2 of them. They sound great compared to the other options.
I don't think they have an in helmet radio available though. On one of my bikes, I used a walkman style radio in a small tankbag. On the other, I had the Factory Honda stereo and CB hooked up to the headset and in helmet microphone.

http://www.jmcorp.com/

They are a great company to work with.
If you buy your own helmet, you can send it to them for the instal of then headset, well, you could 15 years ago.

Hey Chris, I took a different appproach when I was riding. I took a set of full-speaker headphones (not the in-ear type, they bite), removed the crossbar, and glued them puppies into my hat using "shoe goop". Any of the "goop"s werk well, as they are all the same (auto goo, marine goop, ect) ...I guess any flexible glue would werk.
They werked great when plugged-into a pocketed Sony Walkman. Today, the way to go would probably be an MP3 player in the shirt pocket.

Chris,
My Goldwing has a radio, and factory intercom (plugs for both driver and passenger), and I went the route that 12Footer mentions. Lots of fellow 'Wingers have done the same - you think I'm smart-enough to do this on my own? ;)

Anyway, with decent headphones running less than $10, you should have no trouble doing this.

A couple suggestions:
First, wash the helmet in your dishwasher (with a LITTLE regular dish soap), and let it dry - sounds strange, but a lot of fellow riders do this.
Second, dry-fit the headphones (you may have to cut a little foam away).
Third, you're better off with a short cord, and using an extension. That way you don't have to worry about that cord dangling off the helmet.

Hey Bro,
Consider an mp3 player and in ear plug headphones. You need to be a member of the Yahoo klr group.
http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/DSN_klr650/
Ask a question like this there and you will get a lot of replies from people that have already experimented with that. A great mp3 player choice is the creative muvo tx fm. about 99.00. Bout the size of a pack of gum, has armband, great quality music, software with it will rip your cd's so you can load about 4 cds at highest quality format with a 256 mb player. Has fm radio that is good quality. Will record fm broadcasts or voice record.

You cant get the helmet over some in ear headphones. Many KLR riders use ear plugs on long trips because of the wind noise. The idea is to kill 2 birds w one stone. For around town and low speed, I like the in helmet headphones too for convenience. Thanks for the replies all.
I have tried using earphones, but they are just annoying.
I like what Ed F had to say....mould them into the helmut itself.
But before I do that I am going to join Yahoo KLR Group and see what input these guys have done already.
8 days to riding again.
Brother Chris.
