Mount Gearhousing from 1979 Chrysler 45 on a 1966 chrysler 45

Hello. I got a West Bend / Chrysler 45 hp from 1966.
Can I just mount the -79 gearhousing from impeller down on the old 1966? The gear shift stick is different.

Yes you should be able to do that BUT the shift rod connection is different.
The 79 gear house has a pin coupler with a cotter pin.
The old 66 gear house has a threaded coupler between the shift rod lower and the shift rod intermidiat.
You have to change the shift rod lower, it is the easiest way.

So dismantle lower gear housing and change this.
Will the upper rod come in the right place when connecting upwards to the upper rod from the engine?

Yes, change either of them.
Maybe the number 56 is easier to change than number 36.
The shift rod upper will connect, it can flex some in horizontal way.
