I am looking at getting a new engine for my boat. The curent engine is a 1974 Johnson sea horse LS.Are the mounting holes on newer johnson/Evinrude engines likely to be the same position(ie,i can just take one engine off and pop the other one straight in)or am i going to have to re-drill the transom.

Also how difficult is it to wire in a new engine,is it advisable for relative novice to try or is it best to get someone else to fit it and tune it.

they are same! 100% all motors dating all the way back to somewhere in the mid 60's and up are all same holes
