Re: Mounting kicker bracket..

Hi, I just went through this with my 16' Bluefin with the same type of transom. I used two aluminum plates bent at a 90 at the top, I found where the correct mounting height would be on the transom.....I believe that is 15 inches up from the bottom of the hull. I then had to cut one of those plates so it could fit on the inside of the transom......all you are doing is cutting the bottom "square" of that plate diagonally to allow for the curve of your back splash at the transom. The plate on the outside of the transom does not need to be cut. Now meet both plates together to form a "mini transom" and with two or three stainless bolts, 5200 bolt the plates on nice and level.
If you go this route, the biggest problem is making sure that your motor's transom mounting handles have enough room to slide over the new bracket. I did not so I had to grind down the circular mounting plates on the handles a bit.
I love this bracket, so much better than having a kicker bracket hanging off the back end. It works great. I mounted a 1970 Merc 7.5. I will try to post pictures about this as I am just going out the door.

Re: Mounting kicker bracket..

Have you tried hanging the 4 horse on it yet??

As long as the motors don't touch your fine,.........

Might be as simple as a bit of a angled shim on the transom,...

Yeah I did. It fits but the steering cable is in the way on the starboard side, and the steering link hits it on the port side not allowing the main motor to turn. Its basically the same scenario as this guy: http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=557393&p=3852895#post3852895

Sounds good. Would love to see some pictures of this setup.

Panther Marine carries a static bracket that might get the kicker out of the way of the big motor,.....

I didn't heh. Probably going to do something with wood, bolts and a safety chain and see what happens. lol :) I'd like to see more pics to get a better idea of fit and finish.

I found it is possible to put the kicker where it will hit the out drive ..... If my main out drive is trimmed up and turned all the way toward the kicker and the kicker is down and turned all the way toward the main drive, you can destroy two props simultaneously!!! I would check that out before nailing anything down. It is an expensive discovery!!

YeeeeOUCH!! Yeah.. We're going to try to avoid that one. Thanks for the tip. I've read about guy main motors buzzing the kickers and vice versa. I've got a hydrofoil on the motor and was aware of the extra clearance I'll need.
