MP3/CD questions

I just ordered (not received yet) a small MP3 player for walking, workouts, etc. Fathers Day-thanks Boys!

NON iPod. Sony Walkman.

Three questions:

1. How do I transfer CD's to the MP3 format to load onto the device?

2. How can I transfer a CD set to MP3 so they play in order, such as a book?

2. How do I transfer MP3 discs to the device.

Thanks.

Re: MP3/CD questions

Windows Media Player or any of the available alternatives (media monkey, winamp, etc) can handle the ripping of CDs, creating playlists (to maintain order), and transferring files to the device.

Yep. Pretty intuitive process. If you can run your own computer you shouldn't have any trouble getting it done. Once your device is set up you simply launch Media Player, rip your CDs, plug in your device, and drag and drop the tunes onto the MP3 player, which will appear on the right side of the Media Player window. Once you've done that click the sync button and watch the magic. I still get a kick out of watching that little green band and thinking back to the not so long ago days when that process would have taken a week on a computer that cost a couple grand. If you decide you want to download songs you can use a free service like Rhapsody (songs aren't free of course).

You can also download free programs such as Audio Ripper that will transfer them to MP3 format. If you want to play songs or audio in a certain order, name tham in that order such as:

Song1
Song2
Song3

Does that work? If it does I'd have to imagine it's a recent Windows Vista or 7 addition.

I got the unit and tried that, I think.

I copied the tracks I wanted and pasted them into the player. NOTHING THERE. I do not know what <e:> means?

I also tried "ripping" them into the player-NOTHING.

What am I doing wrong.

Re: MP3/CD questions

I finally got the content to transfer. I had to use Windows Media Player. That was incredibly S L O W. Plus, I am not transferring songs, I am transferring a book. So the order has to be correct.

The Media Player doesn't allow me to label the chapters. etc. So, listening will be a challenge.

There has to be an easier/faster/better way. Ideas?

Re: MP3/CD questions

I like to use Exact Audio Copy to extract CD audio into MP3 format. Here is the link and it is free. http://www.exactaudiocopy.de/
When converting a book to mp3. Rename the chapters something like this,
1mathew
2mark
3luke
4john
The chapters will then play in succession. Good luck

Thanks, I'll try that.

I did find that transferring a book from a single MP3 is A LOT easier. It doesn't have to be "ripped" first. The MP3 can just be C & P'd to the player. Plus, I found I can add a title to the folder. The chapters are then numbered, which is fine.

Thanks again all.

Re: MP3/CD questions

THanks all, for all the tips. I think I have it mastered.

I now have 11 books on my MP3 player. That will drastically reduce my trips to the library. Not to mention my pleasure in retiring the portable CD player.
