A friend has a spare MSD Ignition mod that he bought for a Chevy Blazer that he never got around to installing and gave it to me for my boat. Has anybody installed one of these in a boat and is it safe for marine applications? Will it improve perfomance? Should I install it? Any hints/tips on installation?

JustMrWill

1987 OMC 4.3l V6

Re: MSD Ignition Question

The distributor needs to have screens to prevent any leaking of sparks. So No Way do not use it.

The coil should be fine.

As far as the ignition module (controller) you will need to ask MSD as they do make specific controllers for marine use but I am not sure if they are any different than the automotive ones. I would think it would be fine but check first.

The MSD plug wires are top quality and should be fine.

Re: MSD Ignition Question

Msd does make a marine ignition. Look on their web site, sorry I don't have the address. Google and you will find it fast. They make a entire line for marine. Also the distributor has to be a marine approved.
Roman
