Re: My 4hp Johnson Seahorse does not run
Did you just try to start it the once? Was it pumping water? Perhaps the motor overheated and stopped? Have you tried to start it again?

Anytime you get a motor with uncertain service history, a few checks should be done before attempting to run the motor. Check for spark (both cylinders, strong blue spark), good fuel flow (you should hear the carb filling with fuel when priming the bulb, fuel should NOT come out of the carb when priming, but some may dribble out if the motor is spun over with the choke on) , inspect the impeller (recommend replacement as a matter of course). Compression can be done by "feel" if you're just trying to see what you're in for. If it feels pretty good and even, then go ahead and fire it up.

In any case, start eliminating what it ISN'T by troubleshooting the motor one system at a time...
- Scott
