Re: My Battery Questions

Now, the BOTTOM LINE question or should I say "the end of this Thread question" (for-to-say):
Which would be better for OUR boat, which is a 20' Cuddy with very little "house" on it and has a 5.7L 350 engine........a Starting plus a Deep Cell (with Switch/Isolator or Yandina combiner) or a Dual Purpose one by itself? I think we have better control of everything with the combo instead of just one, but? Remember, we don't want to use our exsisting Starting battery as a "starting" battery anymore, only as a back-up......that is if we don't get the Dual one. If we get the Dual, we won't need any other battery, right? By the way, never mind the cost or brand, just which set up.Sorry for all of my confusion I have, but this can be pretty confusing and frustrating to a "Rookie" battery buyer.
Thanks again for all the help!

Re: My Battery Questions

Now we are thinking that if we get one Dual Purpose battery we won't have to have two batteries, a switch/isolator (or combiner) installed. We could also go this route.....keep the Starting battery onboard that is already there, but as said before, use it as a back-up and simply unhook the Dual and hookup the Starting one if we needed the Starting one. And, of course keep both of them fully charged. Another idea is, since we have got a marine portable power pack (AC/DC power sources plus batter jumper starter), we could have that onboard, as we already do, in case we need to power something up or jump the Dual Purpose one.
I just don't know which is more advisable, have a combo (Starting/Deep Cell w/the hookups) or one Dual battery and the Power Pack or the battery we are currently using to start the engine with.
Guess there are a few options that I didn't think about!

Re: My Battery Questions

A couple of days before Memorial Day Weekend, bought a new Barracuda Starting Battery from the marine service that we've had boat work done by. Now we're not sure if we want to have the Battery Switch/Isolator installed on the boat, since we now have two starting batteries OR if we just keep taking the Marine Portable Power Jump Starter with us that we bought for the boat a couple of years ago and continue having only one battery on the boat (the new one) and just keep the old Starting Battery at home.

Re: My Battery Questions

Can't find the reply, or if it was even in this boating website/forum, but someone sent me a photo of their side-by-side 2-battery hookup to a Perko switch. I wanted to show my wife this photo so she will then know what it will look like. We now have two Starter batteries and want to do the hookup with the Perko Switch.......if you have a photo of yours, please reply. Later, we will possibly get rid of the old Starter battery we have and get a Deep Cell one, since we know that a Deep Cell is better to use on "house" than a Starter is.

"Most batteries do not die on their own, they are killed by their owners." Now that made me laugh out loud. How true but never thought of it like that. This is a good thread. Rick.
