My bookmarks are gone!

I've been saving posts from the Johnson/Evinrude forum in "My Favorites" for a while now, probably have 100 or so really good ones. When I'd follow a particularly informative string or find something really great while doing a "search" I'd save the link. Got 'em all organized in folders and everything. Priceless information from the board's gurus; stuff you don't find in manuals.<br />Now I can't get at them! Since the forums board got a make-over all I get is "No such topic numer exists". Aargh! Please tell me you're not done "fixing" the board yet!!!

I suggest that when you find a post you want to save, print it or go to the tool bar a the top of your browser and take " File... Save As " and save the entire HTML thread to your hard drive. This will also generally save all the photos included with the thread. Then set up shortcuts to the post on your own drive. Works out very nice and neat.

Things are definitely messed up as far as searching, doing a test search for "reeves" on the John/Rude board yields me one hit, hopefully someone is working on fixing the search history...

Best to do a as stated above, Copy and Paste to your own files. When a server goes down, everything goes with it...

We are aware of the problem and have tried to fix it a few times without success. Also the holidays have prolonged the time in getting it fixed. The good news however is that none of the data has been lost and once we get it fixed everything will be available again. Thanks for your patience and happy new year!

Sigh. Looks like the Search feature is back (Hooray!) but my bookmarks are kaput (big boo). I will start saving again, following Mark42's excellent advice. Must have reindexed the old posts on the server - "No such topic number exists". A word of advice to everyone - back up your stuff and make sure you have a recovery plan for catastrophic failure. I should've printed those things hardcopy and kept a big binder!

itstippy, copy and paste one of your bookmarks, I may be able to show you how to fix them. I initially had the same problem until I noticed something had changed. Mine all still work now.

itstippy, you might be having some other problem with your computer. Both pages open up for me, the first opens "Johnson 40 hp 69 electromatic" and the second opens "69 40 horse ign. problem".

I just noticed that in the ones i just posted that after bookmarking your originals onto my computer and then copying and pasting them back that the "WWW." is removed and replaced by "forums."<br /><br />Might be something to do with using Firefox for my browser maybe?

I wonder how come you can open the pages by clicking my old links but Seasport & I can't? I'm gonna be up half the night visiting old friends, adding new ones, organizing . . .

Thanks but it would be quite a project. I've got maybe 100 posts divided up into folders "Outboards", "BigTwin", and "FastTwin". with subfolders "Fuel", "Spark", "Compression", "Lower Unit" and "Misc". Then I've got another 75 or so posts under "Boat Restoration" with subfolders "Fiberglass", "Wiring", "Windshield", "Steering", "Paint", "Setup" "Trailer" and "Misc". I'm a bit looney about the 22ci 18-20-25's, the 44ci Big Twins and the 14' mystery-brand runabout I'm restoring. Gotta be looney about something in life!<br />Oh, and I've got a couple special folders: "Shop Tricks" and "Good Writing".<br /><br />MAN am I glad to have those posts back. Thanks again!
