Should we glue the ujoint bellows on bell housing side and glue in the sleeve? the manual indicates glue on tramsom side with clamp then only shows the rubber gasket as getting glue on bell housing side... curious what others do.

Wow I sure love boats and when I am out on the water looking over the bow there is noting like it. Good thing that it outweighs the frustration of mechanical breakdowns, right? So after all of the work that I did previously bellows, etc. Went to change the water pump on the lower unit. Shaft at the top was cracked and gears were twisted and the bellows were full of oil when the sterndrive was removed, drive shaft seal. Apparently my Dad something pretty hard. Anyway, I am proud owner of a new SE-116. However, after putting in the water it run great. When I turn the steering hard right or left, the knocking is still there. With all new unit, u joints ect. To me is must be the new gimbal bearing I put in. While my pride is hurt, as I didn't install it right or maybe I got a cheap one. I don't know what else it can be? It knocks gear and in neutral when turning left or right.

Am I missing something?

Just guessing but either the bearing didn't go all the way in, bearing put in wrong side out (slots should face in) or there is some play as in bearing not fitting tight in transom assembly

Okay well thank you for the reply Alldodge, yep put the damn thing in backwards, get the dumb axx award. I ordered a new one today, OEM this time to make sure. Funny thing I took a before and after picture and it was in backwards from the mechanic that did it before. I just put it in the way it came out. Oh well learning more even day. Crazy thing is boat runs fantastic until turning sharp left or right. Once part get in i will pull it. Then take the out unit off again and change out bearing. I did get out on a smooth day and got 43 MPH out of it. I didn't push it left trim down and got out of it probably before it peaked, but only maybe 3-5 MPH more. Hey 43 is fast enough for this guy, not bad for a 23 yr old boat, with a 15 yr old engine, with 450 hrs on it. Will post once I get it back in and let you all know what I find. Happy Boating everyone.
