M_87,

Let me suggest that you take some time and read this guys thread
http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=355668 You will not only see everything you will need to do, but learn about the quantities needed. You really need to slow down and do some searching and reading and learn here on the forum. You can learn a lot from reading what others on here have done.

I'm just sayin...:D

check out this guys project he did a great job.. one question will that primer or paint he used on the deck hold up? o scratch off? i like that idea.. it looks good and it wont soak the water like carpet will.

update took the boat out today ran great and all the engine was awesome other than i think the needle and seat need replaced. but for sitting for a while and being frozen it was great didnt burn oil! the outdrive was leaking oil from the very top cover so i took a closer look at it and there is a small crack.. should i be worried about that?? i know i am in the boat restoration section but figured i would give it a go here. i was going to take that top cap off and get a new one along with that o-ring an bearing right there and see if that fixes it. should be all just that crack worries me that something else is messed up inside the upper unit but it didnt make any bad sounds or anything so should be good to go. here in a few weeks maybe start taking up the deck!

That is what is called fiberglass tape. You can use it for your stringers and for tabbing but that's about it. You will need to buy cloth in big enough quantity to cover your floor entirely to ensure stength is there. 5 gals of resin is just about right. Unless you plan on glassing the top and bottom sides of your deck you will only need about 10 yrds of cloth. You need to be careful running that boat. If your motor mounts are soft and that motor shifts out of alignment it can tear up the outdrive and reak havoc on things.

good to hear from you woodonglass. ok i was looking into it more and it is untreated cloth? not ok to use? whats that mean?

and i took it out for about a half hour it did great its in the garage now with the outdrive off and the engine ready to come out. this weekend i am planning on spliting the top and finishing taking the engine out. will have photos and possibly more questions.. planed on taking the engine out and making a million mesurments then starting on taking the deck out.

is it necessary to glass both the top and bottom of the deck?

If you use Poly then yes you need to. If you use Epoxy then No, just needed on topside. Untreated means it has NO strength characteristics.
I would use Poly and 8 oz E glass on Top and Bottom. I bet 10 yds will come close to doing both. You will need to buy a 5 yards of 1708 biax for the transom and your stringers etc.. and you'll be good to go.
Try to get everything out in one piece so you can use them as templates.

the top is not near as light as i was thinking it was but even if i coulda gotten away with leaving it on its going to be way easier with it off i think and it only took about 45 min to get off and thats with me doing all of the preperations to get it off by myself then father in law and a friend helped get it off if you see in the pictures there is a 6" PBC we used to help roll the back while me and father in law lifted the front up and let the back roll off about a ft at a time.

Wow, you don't mess around. GREAT WORK!!!! Take a look at this guys work. He did a great job on a very similar boat. You can learn a lot from his rebuild.

http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=358277

I got some work done on mine this past week. Got her stripped and ready to flip her to start working on the hull. Check out my thread in my signature.

GREAT JOB!!! Keep up the good work!

yea well when i get started with stuff i get so wraped up in it its hard to stop.. even to eat haha but we had a few other things to do also and went out to dinner tonight gotta keep the wife happy:) so she will let me keep working on the boat!!!

looks like you lucked out with your boat i looked at the transome plate above where the drive bolts up. on the inside it looked dry and great but after getting the engine out today i could tell i had some rotten spots then bad in the bottom hope i can peel the fiberglass away and see how bad it all really is.

Yep she's a diamond in the rough. Owned by a farmer. Used VERY LITTLE and stored in a barn more than she was used. Just needs some cosmetic work and she'll be good as new. Now, if this stinkin heat wave would just go away....

I'll be watching this one. I have a similar ChrisCraft that hasn't seen water in years. I'm interested to see if there's any wood in the stringers. I think the build quality of these ChrisCraft boats is better than many out there.

and beyond that i know how farmers are as i grew up on my dads farm they always have so much stuff they need to keep under a cover i am surprised that they didnt have more important things to have in that barn like hay and such GREAT find in my opinion!

i know this heat is bad.. i moved here (texas) about 2 years ago and last year from what i hear was one of the hottest years here in a long time i got used to the heat i build power lines and we have to wear long sleeve shirts and thick FR clothes for saftey they are HOT
