I just droped $2800 for a new transom and to have the carbs fixed $70 is cheap.

Even though you get little snow the temp does get low enough to freeze and crack the block/heads/drive if not properly winterized. Winterization is about more then just draining the water out of the block. It is a time to change the oils to make sure there is no water or moisture in the engine/drive that can rust the bearings etc over the winter. Fix the little crap that was bothering you all summer but never enough to properly fix, etc....

One little "Oh I think it will be OK" at 28 degrees and next summer you are wondering why the oil looks like milk and you got no power. Then $5000 later you have your boat back running.

Owing a boat is not about the repairs, it's about the maintainence so you don't have to spend above and beyond on repairs.

I agree with CR2K. I store my boat in a heated garage, and I still winterize. Why - if the power fails, and the temp dips below freezing even for a couple of hours, it's just not worth it. Of course, I have outboards, and I do the work myself - so it's not much out of pocket. Even if it was, I would still do it. You know the saying - and ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!

After munching two aluminum props I bought a SS one and its the best money I ever spent. I have two boats and run SS on both. I haven't bought or repaired a prop in 5 yrs.

Thanks guys for all your Wisdom. I believe the Coldest it gets in AZ during the winter in my area is mid 40's. My boat won't be sitting for long periods of time. I plan to go boating in the winter as well. I understand maintenance, maintenance but winterizing. I don't think I need to.

Anyway my Prop will be ready this Tuesday and I will be ready to go to the lake again.

The Cost was $97 for Repairs. $70 for Reshaping and Bending the Blades, $24 for the Rubber Hub and the rest is tax.

Picked up the Prop yesterday and it looks Brand new with Fresh Paint.

I hope this is the last of my repairs for Several Years.

Good luck on that! It dosn't take much wood to damage an aluminum prop, the green sticks that beavers leave floating will take a chunk out the size of my thumbnail without even feeling it. I've avoided floating reeds after seeing some of them turn out to be logs and utility poles that were floating just below the surface. I likewise swapped out to a SS prop after getting to the know the prop shop guy on a first name basis. Never saw him again!
No worries about ME moving to Gilbert, I USED to work for a company there, I don't want to wish anything bad on them, but if a asteroid hit the building, I might have to buy a bottle of very nice Scotch in their memory!

Ok I have own my boat since Feb 2010 and now comes my first repair. I understand boats needs maintenance, Repairs ECT, but I hope the joy of family boating over shadows the expense.

Here is what I'm having to fix.

Hit Floating Wood at lake.

Results = Spun Prop and Bent Blades.
Repair Cost = $ 70

I did the same thing the second time out in my new boat. To add insult to injury my tilt motor burnt up at the dock that same day.
