just picked up my first (used/cheap) GPS :) <br />it's a lowrance global nav 212. chose this unit<br />because of the plotting feature.<br />anyways, few questions:<br />anyone out there have one? reviews?<br />is the external antanae gonna make a huge diff?<br />any tips to mount on dash? effect signal at all?<br />how is satellite reception on Lk. Ontario?<br />as always, thanks in advance,<br />M.Y.

Do not know the unit, But if it has a built in antenna it should work good on the dash. It will work thru Glass or Canvas very good. Metal, wood, heavy fiberglass, and electronic. it will not work thru. Of course the external will work better.<br /><br />Satellite coverage is world wide so it works good everywhere except for the WAAS birds. WAAS birds are geostationary so must be over the equator. That far north it will be pretty low on the horzion. Any metal cab or framing will block the signal so try and get where it has clear view out the windows all the way around. Without WAAS accurate to about 9 meters or 30 feet. With WAAS good to about 3 meters or 10 feet. <br /><br />Many older units did not have WAAS and only had a few channel for satellites. Newer units most have 12 channels and WAAS corrections.
