My Fish Finder Went Crazy On Me "help"

hi; i have a bottom line depth finder/side finder unit; i was fishing on a local lake and decided to leave the area that i was fishing; i cranked up my boat and turned the depth finder off because i was not using it very much at the time; after i reached my new destination i turned the unit on to scan a open water spot and the unit said system failure:; check battery; i checked all connections to the battery and they were good;tried it again and again and again and it read the same thing; can anyone help me out with this; thanks

Sounds like it's something internal to the fishfinder and will require a trip to the factory for service or replacement.

You checked the connections, but did you check the battery. Checking the battery means checking the voltage. Most electronics will shut down on an over or under voltage condition. That said, I tend to agree that this sounds like an internal failure. Did you disconnect and check the connections ON the locator as well. And as we like to annoy people with, when all else fails, did you check the owners manual to see what it says about error conditions?

yes i checked the battery it had a full charge on it; everything else worked fine on the boat but i havnt been able to find my manual for it yet

Most manufacturers post user manuals on their web site. Go there and download it (if they allow that).

well i checked with hummingbird;lol those guys are nuts; has anyone ever gone to there website to check how much a repair is? i did; my depth finder didnt cost as much as they want to fix it; they have a set price chart in place already; wow gotta find someone else to fix it for me; anyone know of a place that does this kind of repair?

I say your best bet is to bite the bullet and buy a new graph. Bottomline is no more. From now on I am sticking with a simple cheap monochrome graph.
Had the x510c Lowrance is was a $500 headache.
The new graphs now days aren`t worth the big $$$$. Simple is better.

Are you powering it off your cranking battery?
I ask because my Eagle 320 DF acts crazy sometimes except never when I'm trolling with the kicker.
I'm hooked up to the cranking battery on my boat and I theoirize that the charging voltage is tweaking it out.
I have two other batteries on board that I use for my gps and down riggers so I'm going to hook up to one of those and test my theory.
The boat came with the ff hooked up that way and I've just left it but will be changing it for the next outing.
