Re: My history lesson.

Gonfishn is 100% correct. I was there in 86, caught a hop from Okinawa with a stop there. All kinds of chatter on the way out, not a sound when we got there--I remember that distinctly. That is a very powerful place.

Sure do hope that the World Trade Center site becomes that kind of place.

I have to go down there at least once a week for my job, and all I see there, is people laughing, taking pictures, and saying, it's just a construction site!

It seems, and this is just my opinion, that Americans don't take major losses like that to heart anymore.

It seems that we have become so individualized, that we no longer hold things like the Arizona Memorial , close to the heart anymore.

It seems instead, that its in the past, and that events like Pearl Harbor and World Trade Center no longer have an effect on what they do, or say, or feel anymore.

Someone...PLEASE PROVE ME WRONG!!

Re: My history lesson.

nice post. my father is an ex-submariner and owns countless navy artifacts. they are displayed from one end of the house to the other. on one of my trips to hawaii i came to own an actual piece of the uss arizona. only about 1" x 2" and covered in rust. i gave it to my dad. he proudly displays it in his living room and it's his favorite item.
