Look great! That's the thing about rolling it on, you get the feel for it pretty fast. I get mixing a little too much instead of running out in the middle of the job. At least it's Rusto and not a way more expensive marine paint!

You deserve to stare and have a few beers now, enjoy.

That looks as good as new. Great job brother, can't wait to see it when I get down to visit you next month. Be careful turning it over sure would not want to scratch such fine work there.

Well thanks for all the compliments guys. Yea I will have to show a little patience here on flipping it, but I got a trailer to work on. It only needs bunks, springs, keel rollers, wiring, paint, tires, wheels, probably wheel bearings, but hey the winch is almost new! I could also work on cleaning up the 50hp Johnson, I really like the white like Lakelovers or the way Jas painted the one on his Jet, With newer decals the old 74 will feel like a new motor. Or I can build a cradle for it so I don't have to but it back on the trailer and can work on that at the same time other boat work is going on. I'am thinking I'll have a plan by the weekend. Like I have discovered, a couple beers, some stare time and it will come together. Fireguy, I didn't know I would see you next month, i might have to draft ya to flip a boat. HaHa, and guys fireguy is my brother. He says he is looking for a Starcraft also. I got him looking around on here, he might be hooked, well see.

So after looking at the list of things to do i decided on some trailer work. Ya know the list keeps getting longer the more work I do, and I think I am getting kind of fond of the old girl. Anyway jacked it up to pull the wheel bearings and no surprises there. no signs of water intrusion but some scoring on the bearings and races. probably could have got by but if your rebuilding you know. So off to Napa they had them. Got back home cleaned and scraped the hubs got them primed and ready for paint tomorrow. Then started looking at the rest of it and made a list of what it needs. Springs are shot , so I got them measured along with the Square U-bolts. One of the left side U-bolts was there but completely broken off and one on the right side had one nut broke off. The kind of cool thing is the undercarriage including the fenders is completely bolted to the frame. It should be easy to change out the springs. Also to rough sand the trailer frame and components for painting. Ha well see though. Anyway going to order springs, some keel rollers and hardware tonight and hope it arrives by next weekend. Also gotta work again tomorrow(sunday) so painting the hubs might be all that gets done then reassemble on monday. Hope you all enjoy the rest of the weekend.

Ha ha, that's exactly what happened to me. When I got mine, I just wanted to maybe do a little restoration and get on the water as quick as possible. Then every time I discovered something I needed to do, I would think "well, I might as well make it as nice as I can, because I'm gonna keep it for a long time". So one thing led to another and I ended up with a total re-do!

So far I have managed to just keep mine on the water. Did a few things to keep her living like get rid of the pressure treated wood floors and some trailer work. :facepalm: She's too much fun to tear her down and re-do. Totally functional, just not so good looking. I threw my list away. :lol:

Ya know GA in my original post I just wanted to get her in the water by early June for my fishing vacation, then start looking for a SS and sell the Jup, but now that I am working on her its going more like LL's boat. When I do a little work I find more to do, the thing is i enjoy it and now I am doing the balancing act of what I can spend and what needs to be done and what I want done. I don't think this will be ready by June and I have a backup plan for vacation. So like I said I am kinda starting to like this old girl and some old ideas are coming back. In my original post I mentioned opening up the bow, well I think I can do it,and do it well. I have some ideas and I won't say right now, but I havn't seen them on here yet. LL when I was thinking about paint colors and mentioned the boat wants some red, you said," listen to the boat......" well I think she is ok with the conversion. No I'am not smokin anything either. Gettin to old for that nonsence.

Its just been about the trailer this week. Got the bunks, rollers and winch stand removed this week. The new springs and hardware showed up so I will be sanding and grinding through the weekend. On Monday I want to take it to a buddy's shop where he will cut the old jack off that was welded on and cut down the guide-ons about a foot. Hopefully it will be painted and can start reassembly by next weekend. Need to order keel rollers and start looking for wheels/tires. The trailers are bigger money pits then our boats. It will be nice to get through this and back to work on the boat. Anyways a few pics. One of the pics is a mockup of the guide-on.

Yeah, I hear ya AJ. Three things kinda suck about re-dos. Trailer work, paint stripping and poured in foam. I'm lucky on the foam. Whatever you're doing at the current time is moved to the top of the suckiest list. Trailer for you right now. :grumpy:

Agree, trailer work is a thankless job...until you see a poor sap on the side of the road with his axle resting next to what's left of his skeg! :lol:

I'd actually take some trailer work right now...I'm on my 2nd LU teardown in as many months :facepalm:

Yes no one hurt, just his pride and ruined 2 days of his 5 day vacation. Oh and good luck on rebuilding that lower unit. EZ the trailer story goes on. I had the old jack cut of, then the guide on brackets cut down, saftey chains welded on and a couple little things done at a friend shop. Still cost me $80 He did throw in some old boat trailer hdwe he had laying around so that took some of the bite out of it. While it was gone I did some sanding and scrapinf on the old winch stand and got it primered. Picked the trailer up this morning, got the fenders removed. I'am off tomorrow and gonna start early and hope to have it primered by evening.:happy:

yeah, when i tried the "support dirigible" option to keep it off the ground instead, it really limited my towing speeds and i kept getting snagged on phone lines and the like. that time at the Taco Bell drive-through was REALLY embarrassing; i don't think the Admiral will ever forgive me. and the dang cat kept trying to sharpen his claws on it, and i was worried the dog would chew it up between trips.
so i guess i'm back to trailers, much as i hate em.

Were you working on the trailer until 3 am? I hope so, we need it for the fishing trip in June. still looking for a Starcraft but the pickings have been slim, just got to wait it out I guess.
